# Barbuda

**Barbuda** is one of the two main islands forming the State of Antigua and Barbuda, in the Caribbean Sea. Covering roughly 144 km², the island is mostly flat and lined with celebrated pink-sand beaches.

## Geography

Barbuda is essentially a low coral island, with a highest point barely above 38 metres. Codrington Lagoon, on the west coast, hosts one of the world's largest colonies of magnificent frigatebirds.

## Heritage

The Codrington Lagoon Bird Sanctuary is a must-see for ornithologists, and the island preserves several caves adorned with Amerindian petroglyphs.
